Music
We are Musicians. We are Castleway.
Our music intent at Castleway is to:
Why do we teach music?
Music plays a key role in brain development. It helps to develop language, motor skills, emotional intelligence and collaboration skills. At Castleway, we believe that music is not just a subject; it's a vital part of our community. By fostering a deep understanding of music, we empower children to participate in musical activities both within and outside the school walls. Whether it's performing in a school concert, joining a local choir, or simply tapping their feet to a catchy tune, we aim to instil a lifelong love and appreciation for the unparalleled art of music. At Castleway, children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres.
Music Implementation at Castleway:
At Castleway, our Music curriculum ensures opportunities for children to sing, listen and appraise, play, perform, improvise, and compose. These music experiences are integrated into classroom activities, as well as assembly singing and performances. Specialist teachers guide children in learning how to play instruments and showcase their talents in Castleway's very own 'rock band' concerts.
Through exploring music, children develop descriptive language skills, understanding how music can convey different feelings, emotions, and narratives. They also acquire technical vocabulary like volume, pitch, beat, and rhythm, enabling them to analyse and discuss music more effectively.
Our music teaching aligns with the National Curriculum requirements by utilising the Kapow scheme of work and featuring a 'Musician of the month' study each month.
This academic year (2024/25), all of Year 3 are benefitting from specialist Violin Tuition each week! The photos below , taken in September 2024, show just how quickly our Y3 children started to love learning to play the violin!
