E-Safety
A key feature of all our use of technology within school is ensuring that children learn how to use technology and the internet safely. There is a lot that you can also do to limit the risks to your child online. Much of the information on how to do this is scattered over the internet, so we have brought some of it together here.
School will:
Make sure that we give out e-safety messages throughout the year through our lesson delivery
Raise e-safety awareness through high profile events and assemblies
Support parents with practical advice and support on how to limit risk online.
Follow the schools e-safety protocols when publishing to the school website, newsletters and social media accounts.
Families should:
Think about the number of ways that your children have access to the internet both at home and outside the home – do they have an internet enabled phone, iPad, PSP or tablet?
If your home has wi-fi can your children access the internet unsupervised? If so when? Could this be limited?
Think about the devices your children could use to create videos / images and post unsupervised. Do their devices have cameras or does the computer have a webcam?
Are your children using Snapchat/Whatsapp/Facetime unsupervised? Do you know who is on their contact lists?
Decide if you want your child to post images / videos online.
Talk to your children about ways in which they could be identified online through a video / image – do they give away details of where they live? Could the view from the background give away your child’s location? Are they wearing a school uniform?
Talk to your children about geo tagging of images that could show patterns of behaviour – would the tag show that they always go to the park/youth club on a Friday at 6.30pm?
Look at posts that your children have made on social media together and decide if your child is keeping themselves safe.
Children should:
Never post images or videos of yourselves online that they would not want your parents to see.
Never post or give away information that would give someone information about where you are at a regular time each week.
Never post images of yourself wearing your school uniform on social media, unless it’s on the school website or blog.
Never create a video that makes you or other people feel uncomfortable.
Never create or post images or video of another person without their permission
Always be responsible for the content that you post.
